    ‘Below-average temperatures’: Here's what the Farmers' Almanac says about fall in Brockton

    BROCKTON — Brockton residents should stock up on warm apple cider, fuzzy blankets and movies because fall is just around the corner and, according to the Farmers’ Almanac fall weather forecast , it will be a cooler-than-average season.

    While much of the U.S. can expect warmer-than-average temperatures this autumn, Brockton-area residents should plan for the opposite, with the Farmers’ Almanac predicting cooler-than-average temperatures throughout the Atlantic Corridor.

    Not a fan of the colder weather? According to the Almanacs' predictions, the cooler temperatures aren't expected until October, so there's still plenty of time to enjoy your favorite fall-themed outdoor activities in the sunshine this September.

    When will it start to get cold in Brockton?

    According to the Almanacs' fall predictions, September's temperatures will be near- to above-average across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. However, October will bring cooler-than-normal temperatures from New England southward through the Atlantic Corridor.

    According to data from the National Weather Service, the average temperature in Brockton for the month of September is 64.8 degrees Fahrenheit. In October, that number drops to 53.5 degrees.

    How rainy will it be?

    The Brockton area will see a near-average rainfall, while Western Massachusetts, upstate New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine will see below average precipitation, according to the Almanac.

    According to data from the National Weather Service, the average rainfall in Brockton for the month of September is 4.08 inches. In October, the average is 4.96 inches.

    Will it rain on Labor Day?

    Planning a Labor Day cookout? Go right ahead. According to the Almanacs’ predictions, Brockton-area residents should be safe from the rain the weekend of Sept. 2, predicting pleasant temperatures and sunshine for much of the U.S. east of the Mississippi. However, a couple showers could form in northern New England, they wrote.

    What does that mean for fall foliage?

    While the Brockton area will see cooler-than-average temperatures in October, leaf-peeping destinations in Western Massachusetts, as well as upstate New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine will see near-average temperatures, according to the Almanac.

    “The average temperatures and below-average rainfalls could translate to some pretty foliage in the Northeastern region,” the Farmers’ Almanac wrote on its website.

    Much of New England will be at or near peak fall color by October 11, they wrote.
