Do Brockton state rep primary elections have you confused? Here's what you need to know.

BROCKTON — Confused about who's running for state representative in the Tuesday, Sept. 3 primary? We're here to help.

Driving around the city and trying to figure out who is on your ballot using yard signs will leave you scratching your head. Candidates don't always put the number of the district on their signs, and the signs aren't always in their district.

It's actually pretty simple. Brockton is part of three state House of Representatives districts: The 9th, 10th and 11th Plymouth districts. If you live in Brockton, you're in one of those districts. It's easy to find out which. Just visit the secretary of state's website at www.sec.state.ma.us/WhereDoIVoteMA/WhereDoIVote and plug in your address. It will show you a sample ballot of exactly which choices you'll have.

Who's running for the 9th Plymouth district?

This district covers Brockton's West Side plus all of West Bridgewater and parts of Easton and East Bridgewater. The seat is open after incumbent Democrat Gerry Cassidy decided not to seek another term .

Cassidy's chief of staff, Bridget Plouffe , is on the ballot as a Democrat. She's the only Democrat running in this district.

Republicans have Larry Novak running. Barring unlikely write-in candidacies, Plouffe and Novak are on track to face each other in the Tuesday, Nov. 5 general election.

Who's running for the 10th Plymouth district?

The 10th Plymouth district includes Brockton's East Side and north side. If you live in Brockton Wards 4, 5 or 6, this is your district.

Incumbent Democrat Michelle DuBois faces no primary opposition and does not have a GOP opponent. DuBois is seeking a sixth two-year term.

Who's running for the 11th Plymouth district?

The only contested party primary is for the 11th Plymouth district. If you're a Democrat, you can choose between incumbent Rita Mendes or challenger Fred Fontaine . The primary should decide the election since no GOP candidate is on the ballot.

Mendes, a former Brockton City Councilor, is seeking her second term . Fontaine failed to break through running as an independent for the 11th Plymouth seat in 2022 after missing a paperwork deadline . He also lost the non-partisan 2023 Brockton mayoral election to Mayor Robert F. Sullivan

What if I still have questions?

    Where to vote early

You don't have to wait until Election Day to vote this year, as the city continues to experiment with early voting at the Shaw's Center . Early voting begins Saturday, Aug. 24.
