    Retired Norton police officer, lifelong Brockton resident dies unexpectedly at 54

    BROCKTON — A Norton police officer from Brockton died unexpectedly at his home on August 26.

    Scott D. Sweeting, 54, of Brockton, was a Norton police officer for 28 years. He retired from the force earlier this year, according to the Norton Police Department.

    “Scott embodied community policing and was well known in the community. He taught DARE in the elementary schools for several years and always took time to stop and speak with children he saw while on patrol,” they wrote in a post on Facebook .

    Sweeting was a1987 graduate of Southeastern Regional Vocational High School in Easton.

    He leaves behind two children, Tyler Sweeting and Justin “JJ” Sweeting.

    “Scott was a caring and giving man who enjoyed fishing, playing ball and watching movies with his children. Most importantly he loved his family,” his obituary read.
