BRIDGEWATER — Local detailing business Top Notch Auto Service started in AJ Jaramillo's driveway. Now, a few years in, he has the secrets to success the "AJ" way.

When it comes to Top Notch , cleanliness is "close to Godliness," and that's their motto.

Jaramillo began detailing and tints to pass the time and keep his car clean. The young entrepreneur invested in better equipment and researched innovative cleaning techniques, and eventually, everything "took off," Jaramillo said.

The business has become a permanent fixture in the community for the last three years, standing tall at 350 West St. East Bridgewater.

Lots of peopleare self-proclaimed car enthusiasts, and what better way to show your appreciation than by giving your car the needed TLC?

"I never realized how big the car community was. It's a real thing. It's almost like a brotherhood. If you're not in it, wouldn't think it existed," Jaramillo said.

The business specializes in detailing and window tinting.

Jaramillo, the sole owner, owes his success to marketing, quality of work, and customer service, as well as building a great team with Jevaughn Evans and James Babb, Jaramillo said.

Evans said working at Top Notch has changed his "life for the better."

"AJ turned my dreams into a reality. I've always dreamed of working in a team like this, and AJ has allowed me to grow into my own role at Top Notch," Evans said.

What makes Top Notch so successful?

"My keys to success are creating innovation for the business, marketing and money management. With those three things, you will be successful," Jaramillo said.

Marketing is one of his biggest avenues to reach customers all over Southeastern, Massachusetts.

"Finding your direct audience is the first step, and learning how to create content on social media to attract them to your business and the services you offer. Analyzing the market helps you figure out what your audience likes and doesn't like," Jaramillo said.

Some social media strategies include filming the content, ads and posting daily reels and stories to social media.

"We post daily to keep the customers engaged, update our photos weekly, and ensure we have an active social media presence," Jaramillo said. "Staying consistent will breed success."

Now, you may wonder what are the steps to launching an auto detailing business. Well, to Jaramillo, it was a no-brainer.

How to open an auto detailing business?

"One of my first steps was obtaining a business license, then opening a business account, EIN number, email address. Once you establish your business to the government, you can find a location, buy all the tools for the services, and build a website," Jaramillo said.

Before you tackle the details of detailing and tinting, make sure "you know what you're doing," Evans said.

Jaramillo describes himself as "a self-taught tint installer."

"I learned independently and practiced on my friends' and family's vehicles until I was comfortable branching out independently," Jaramillo said.

Opening a business was an "eye-opener" for the young entrepreneur. Although he faced several challenges during his three years in business, he wouldn't change it for the world.

"Owning a business has made me grow so much as a person and helped me set an example for young men my age that you can achieve any dream you want as long as you put the work in. You don't have to follow what everyone else is doing. You can create your own lane and endless possibilities for yourself," Jaramillo said.
