BROCKTON – Dive into the wonderful art created by the bright minds of Brockton High School students at the Fuller Craft Museum on the west side of Brockton.

The exhibit, Brockton Youth Creates 2024, will be on display at the Fuller Craft Museum until Oct. 13.

The art exhibit varies from “ whimsical teapots to dystopian illustrations , this exhibition offers insight into the joys, anxieties, and goals of the next generation of makers” at Fuller Craft Museum.

According to the museum, "this group of work highlights the power of young voices, celebrating their individuality and reflecting on the wider world. From whimsical teapots to dystopian illustrations, this exhibition offers insight into the joys, anxieties, and goals of the next generation of makers."

    How artwork is chosen

Brockton Youth Creates is an ongoing biennial exhibition that displays the work of young artists in the Brockton Public School system. In the spring the museum hand-picks several pieces of artwork from the student’s art at the Brockton High School art show to be hung in the community gallery.

“It’s quite an honor for our students to be chosen and to have their work hung in a museum, it looks professional and beautiful. The idea is the museum is right in our backyard and our students belong in this museum. To have a piece of work displayed there really cements the relationship that it’s their museum,” Brockton Public School 's Director of Art Sarah Richards said.

“Art gives our students a voice. Their art is based on who they are what they think and what’s important to them. It gives them a way to express what they’re happy about, what they’re upset about, and what they’re feeling,” Richards said.

“It’s such an incredible self-esteem boost for them. Some are off to art school so it gives them a nice little feeling and boost. And some are young. There are sophomores in this show and for a sophomore to get picked they may not realized they enjoyed making art and being recognized motivates them to take more classes and continue with their artwork,” Richards added.

    How to see the exhibit

Brockton Youth Creates 2024 exhibition has been on display since July 13 and will end on Oct. 13.

Richards, who is so proud of the students, can’t wait for the community to see everything the students have in store.

“Having an art partner that will celebrate our students just means a lot,” Richards said of the Fuller Craft Museum.

Richards added that every year fourth and fifth grade students from Brockton tour the museum and get a taste of the top-notch gallery. This visit gives students an idea of what type of art is being created in their city.
