Vehicle crashes in Ridge
A one-vehicle crash on Route 235 in Ridge Sunday morning resulted in serious injuries to a motorist. According the Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, the crash happened around 7:35 a.m. in the area of Bryans Lane. The injured motorist was flown to a regional trauma center by Maryland State Police Trooper 7.
Great Mills man sentenced to life for fatal stabbing
A man was sentenced last week for the slaying of a 33-year-old St. Mary’s man that occurred two years ago. Cherron Montril Waul of Great Mills was given a sentence of life in prison for the first-degree murder of 33-year-old Jermell Delontae Jones of Lexington Park. Waul, 47, was convicted of first-degree murder by a jury following a three-day trial earlier this year. ...
Crash, fire reported in Hollywood
Shortly before 8 p.m. June 29, a two-vehicle crash reportedly occurred on Route 235 in Hollywood. According to the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department, one of the vehicles caught on fire. No injuries were reported by the fire department as a result of the crash and fire. The incident remains under investigation.

Man charged with rape and kidnapping On June 21, charges were filed against Robert Michael Bates, 47, of Waldorf alleging rape, kidnapping, assault and false imprisonment. A 47-year-old Mechanicsville man is in custody following a late Saturday night incident in Great Mills during which a woman was allegedly assaulted and seriously injured. One flown following crash
Around 10 p.m. on June 22, emergency crews responded to a location on Budds Creek Road for the report of a motor vehicle crash. According to the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department, a motorist trapped in a truck was freed by crews, who removed the vehicle’s roof and driver’s door to successfully rescue the injured person. The motorist was then flown to a regional hospital.

Fire damages Leonardtown house
Shortly after 4 a.m. on June 18, firefighting crews were dispatched to a house on Montague Drive in Leonardtown. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, a fire at a residence was discovered by the homeowner after a smoke alarm was activated, awakening the occupants. Investigators said the incident involved a fire on the rear deck of the single-family home. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze prior to extension into the dwelling, which is owned by Jeff and Erika Jamieson. No injuries were reported and damage is estimated at $50,000. The fire remains under investigation.

Firefighter remembered one year after his death
He was born and raised to be a firefighter. Brice Clayton Trossbach was a member of a first responder family. When his father, Warren, wasn’t farming he was busy doing mechanical repairs on vehicles at the Leonardtown firehouse.
