Martin County Softball (25-2) has been dominant throughout their regular season, and that success has continued over into playoffs as well.

The Martin County ladies beat the Washington Pam Pack on Wednesday, May 15, by the same score they won in their prior game: 2-1.

Martin jumped out to a 1-0 lead with the help of a bunt and passed ball. Washington came back in later innings, making it an even 1-1. Martin ultimately won the contest in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the seventh.

It was a pitching duel between Washinton’s Emma Orr and Martin’s Peyton Lane.

Lane got the win while spending all seven innings on the mound, surrendering only one earned run on two hits, and racked up ten Ks. She has been reliable: she has yet to toss less than eight strikeouts in nine consecutive pitching appearances.

Martin County saw five different players record at least one hit. Riley Cowan tallied two hits and scored a run in the 2-1 win for the Knights.

Despite the final result, Washington’s Peyton Youmans made the most of her at-bats, stealing two bases while going 1-for-2 and recording their only run of the contest.

Martin County pushed their record up to 24-2 with that win, their 14th straight at home. As for Washington, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-4.

Martin went on to defeat Camden in round four of the playoffs after trailing 3-0; they scored six unanswered runs in the seventh inning to beat Camden 6-3 despite Camden being the higher seed.

Camden finished their season 20-3, while Martin moved to 25-2 and advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals.
