The W.C. Chance Alumni Association is holding a weekend-long gathering to celebrate ‘Keeping the Dream Alive’, beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2.

“The W.C. Chance East End School Complex in Robersonville has now joined the ranks of the West Martin Complex in Oak City, Edna Andrews Complex in Hamilton and the Jamesville Complex in Jamesville and we are very excited about this,” said Larry Rhodes. “The W.C. Chance East End alumni was established in 1985 with the vision to involve and expose the community to educational, recreational and cultural activities.”

This coming weekend’s activities begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a meet-and-greet for all attending.

The highlight of the weekend is the Black Tie Reunion Banquet at 6 p.m. where N.C. Rep. Shelly Willingham is headlining as the guest speaker. All events will take place at the East End School Robersonville.

“We are celebrating coming together in keeping with our theme ‘Keeping the Dream Alive.’ We will not just count the years, but also the memories and continue building back. The alumni is excited about connecting with old classmates, family and friends,” said Rhodes.

William Claudius Chance Sr. was born in Parmalee on Nov. 23, 1880. He went on to become an educator, humanitarian and a revered contributor to the history and future of Martin County. He died on May 7, 1970.
