The Harry Houdini Estate

When you get an invitation to a wedding being held at the legendary Harry Houdini estate in Los Angeles, you know you are in for a “magical” evening like no other. The spectacular five-acre property, just north of the well-known Sunset Strip in the Hollywood Hills, consists of a myriad of terraced gardens, a rock waterfall, caves and paths which ultimately lead to the refurbished mansion at the top of the estate.

I entered the property off of Laurel Canyon Blvd. and self-parked in a spacious lot. The guests were then treated to introductory refreshments and appetizers at a brief reception. You’ll definitely get in your steps for the day given the long outdoor staircase to reach the upper levels of the property. Just don’t forget to keep an eye out for the Houdini bust along the way.

Ultimately, we reached the driveway next to the mansion where the stunningly beautiful ceremony was held. A further round of cocktails awaited us on a nearby deck which surrounded an outdoor swimming pool that Harry himself may have used to practiced his legendary underwater escapes.

When it was time for dinner, we meandered down a set of stone steps to a lovely lawn where exquisitely decorated tables awaited us. Following a catered meal par excellence, there was plenty of time for reminiscing about the bride and groom led by the best man and maid of honor. To cap off the evening, the DJ provided a wonderful selection of songs for all to enjoy and dance to under the lights.
