A 38-year-old Lafayette man has been charged in an attack last week on a mental health worker contracted to work with Tippecanoe County Jail inmates.

The alleged victim was with a jail deputy when she stopped to see Levi Josamson Foster of the 1000 block of North 7th Street, according to a probable cause affidavit filed Thursday. The victim said Foster "seemed fidgety as he stood in the doorway" when he "suddenly lowered his body and wrapped his arms around her lower back" and took her to the ground.

The court record said Foster later threatened the jail deputies who removed him from the victim and that he later said he was trying to perform oral sex on her.

Foster, who remains in the jail, has been charged with several felonies in the incident, including attempted rape, attempted sexual battery, battery and criminal confinement.

His record includes several cases of theft, battery and robbery with bodily injury.
