A Fort Liberty soldier was killed Monday after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle near the intersection of Murchison Road and Pamalee Drive, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

Marquel Tyler, 25, of Fayetteville, was driving a 2000 GMC Yukon and making a left turn into a parking lot about 10:30 p.m. on 3100 Murchison Road when he turned into the path of Jacob Hedden, 23, of Fort Liberty, traveling on a 2016 Yamaha motorcycle, according to police.

Hedden was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and later died, a news release said.

Tyler was not injured in the collision.

Police confirmed Wednesday afternoon that Hedden was an active-duty soldier at the time of the accident.
