Week 1 of high school football is in the books, and it's time for more bulletin board material.

As Fayetteville-area football teams get Week 2 underway, The Fayetteville Observer took a look at all 11 of the football squads, and ranked them from best to worst based on their opening-week performances.

CAPE FEAR SETS THE TONE: Sanchez, Faison combine for 5 touchdowns in Colts’ season-opening rout over Pine Forest

VOTE AOTW: 6 TDs with a game-winner, jaw-dropping milestone highlight Athlete of the Week poll

Here are the 910Preps rankings for all 11 Fayetteville-area teams:

    1. Seventy-First : The Falcons survived their home-opener against Richmond Senior after a game-winning drive by senior quarterback DeAndre Nance and an outstanding two-way performance from Donavan Frederick. With the win, Seventy-First continued their streak of regular-season wins to 31 games.
    2. Trinity Christian : The Crusaders bounced back in major fashion from their blowout loss to Providence Day. As they seem to be back to themselves, Trinity Christian is looking to keep up the momentum as they play at home for the first time this season.
    3. Cape Fear : Cape Fear flexed its muscles on Pine Forest on the road and was led by King Faison and Geronimo Sanchez on the offensive end. Cape Fear lost a lot of star-power last season to graduation, but still have a healthy core to lead the way.
    4. Terry Sanford : The Bulldogs' junior quarterback Jacob Moore took over the reigns this season, and superseded expectations at the beach against Topsail. Six total touchdowns from the junior and a commendable defensive effort, the Bulldogs’ first AAC Championship hopes are already looking bright.
    5. Jack Britt : Britt put on a solid defensive front in their win on the road against Hoke County. While the Gavin Stokes-Javonte Brooks connection looked nice for Jack Britt in the first half, Westover transfer Aiden Page returned an interception for 30 yards to seal the close win for the Buccaneers.
    6. Gray's Creek : Gray's Creek’s rushing attack is arguably one of the best in the area after putting up over 300 yards in the season opener against E.E. Smith. With a healthy defense, the upside for Jon Sherman's Bears is bright heading into Week 2.
    7. Pine Forest : Pine Forest put up a disappointing effort Friday night at home to Cape Fear. The three-time reigning AAC champs' defense gave up 44 points and put up negative yardage in the loss. Their ranks dropped a bit, and could drop more as they travel across town to Seventy-First, the defending 3A East Champion, this Friday.
    8. South View : South View dropped their season opener to Overhills and was unable to keep a steady pace going on the offensive end with two Tyriq Clarida interceptions.
    9. Douglas Byrd : The Eagles notched their first win since 2022 with huge production on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Isaiah Pope and running back Justin Richardson showed up for Byrd, and Jalen Mitchell put up an all-around performance. Byrd is usually counted out before the year begins, but there is huge upside to their season, especially in the nonconference sector.
    10. Westover : Westover travelled to Pittsboro and pulled out a win despite some offensive struggles, while the linebacker corps could move the needle for Westover, a key component that could halt its progression in the AAC is the young offense.
    11. E.E. Smith : The Golden Bulls began their era under Te'vell Williams, but couldn't get the offensive production or defensive stops to make some noise. Their last in the beginning rankings of the season, but it doesn't count them out just yet.
