A Fayetteville man was arrested Tuesday night in the fatal May shooting of a Fort Liberty soldier outside a Ramsey Street hookah lounge.

Jaivion Omari Robinson, 22, is charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in the May 4 slaying of Jonah Malik Taylor , 21.

According to search warrants, Taylor died at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center after being taken there by personal vehicle.

Police dispatchers received the first 911 call about 2:30 a.m., according to court records. The caller said he was in a parking lot near the Anubis Hookah Lounge on Ramsey Street when he heard the gunshots and saw several vehicles speeding from the area, court records state.

The caller said the shooter, who left the scene in a gray vehicle, was wearing a green hat and a white jumpsuit and was armed with a large silver handgun, according to the warrant.

Two .45-caliber shell casings, drops of blood, a gold necklace and a Don Julio liquor bottle were found at the scene, the warrant states.

Crimestoppers tips provided police with the names of Robinson and the people he was with on the night of the shooting, according to court records.

Five days after the killing, Robinson, driving a gray Nissan Altima, was stopped by police for an alleged window tint violation, the record states. According to a search warrant, police claim the Nissan is the same vehicle seen speeding away from the shooting.

During his first appearance Wednesday, Superior Court Judge Cheri Siler-Mack denied Robinson bail, citing the fact that he has unrelated charges pending against him and a history of failing to appear in court.

Among the 20 unrelated charges pending in Cumberland County are felony fleeing to elude arrest, possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver marijuana and two counts of maintaining a dwelling. According to court records, at the time of Taylor's killing, Robinson was out on bail on misdemeanor charges of fleeing to elude arrest, reckless driving and failure to stop at a red light in October.

During Robinson's brief first appearance in court Wednesday, Assistant District Attorney Autumn Young said that Taylor and four friends were in a vehicle Taylor was driving when they came across Robinson and his friends in the parking lot. She said that Robinson snatched a chain from someone in Taylor's group and brandished a gun at those in his vehicle before shooting Taylor at point-blank range.

Young also stated that Taylor was unarmed and reportedly told his assailant as much.

According to news partner WRAL , Taylor was a paratrooper assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.
