FORT LIBERTY — The Fort Liberty office of the federal supplemental nutrition program for women, infants and children, known as WIC, has moved locations on post, officials announced this week.

Previously operating in a satellite office in the post's Public Health Annex on Blackjack Street, the new location is in the Joel Clinic, 4861 Logistics St., a news release this week stated.

“The relocation of the Cumberland County WIC office to the Joel Clinic represents a positive step forward in ensuring that pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants, and children in the area have access to the necessary resources and support for leading healthy lives,” a Fort Liberty statement reads. “The move signifies a continued commitment to the community's well-being. It highlights the importance of accessible and comprehensive healthcare services for all residents.”

The WIC office will keep hours of operation, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fort Liberty WIC clients may also visit other WIC offices in the county.

The Fort Liberty WIC office first opened in March 2023 after the need was identified by a 2021 Fort Liberty community survey that revealed concerns about food insecurity among military families, said Dr. Jennifer Green, Cumberland County Public Health director.

The clinic is an initiative of the Food Policy Council and Fort Liberty Public Health Partnership, which is a collaboration with the Fort Liberty Department of Public Health, UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, the news release stated.

The other Cumberland County WIC locations are at the Department of Public Health, 1235 Ramsey St. in Fayetteville; the Family Resource Center, 103 Laketree Blvd., in Spring Lake; and Hope Mills WIC, 2622 Hope Mills Road.
