Inmate who escaped from Cape Fear Valley last week arrested Thursday

A Wade man who escaped from a Fayetteville hospital last week after being taken into custody by law enforcement for outstanding warrants was arrested Thursday, according to a Cumberland County Sheriff's Office release.

Daiqone Michael Hoffman, 30, of Wade, was processed Thursday on outstanding warrants for larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and breaking and entering a motor vehicle, a news release said. He was also wanted on charges of kidnapping and a probation violation, according to the release.

According to the release, members of the Sheriff's Office's Special Response Team found Hoffman at 1:51 p.m. at an apartment on Gordons Way off Purdue Drive. Hoffman was arrested without incident and taken to the Cumberland County jail, the release said.

Hoffman disappeared about 9:45 p.m. while he was at the hospital for a "medical evaluation before being processed into the jail," the Sheriff's Office said in a Sept. 20 release. Chaka Jordan, vice president of Marketing and Communications for Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, said Hoffman was being guarded by a deputy when he escaped.

She said the hospital was momentarily locked down after Hoffman was discovered missing, but the lockdown was lifted once it was determined he was no longer on the premises. She did not say what time the lockdown happened or how long it lasted.

Hoffman is being held on $200,000 bail, the release said.
