Cape Fear football put an emphatic stamp on its 38-0 win over Purnell Swett on Thursday.

With seconds left in the third quarter, Aydin Leonard swarmed on a botched snap and knocked the ball loose for Bryan Charles to recover in the end zone as Cape Fear's final points came from a defense that didn't give up any.

The Colts (5-0, 2-0 United 8) ran the field on their first possession and scored in just over a minute on the first of King Faison's two touchdown runs. Tai Phillips also had a pair of TDs and Francisco Rodriguez kicked a 34-yard field goal.

Cape Fear's defense notched its second shutout of the season, adding this one to a 44-0 Week 1 win over Pine Forest.

Purnell Swett fell to 3-2, 0-2 in U8 play.

The Colts host the conference's other undefeated team, Seventy-First (5-0, 2-0), next week in a showdown between two of the state's best 3A squads.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.

Terry Sanford runs well in mud

Terry Sanford 29, Triton 0 — In Erwin, the Bulldogs held the Hawks to minus-8 yards of total offense in a beatdown.

Jacob Moore hit Kylee Thames with a pair of touchdown passes and the quarterback ran for another score from 29 yards out for Terry Sanford (3-2, 2-0 All American).

Isaiah Washington added another TD on a 46-yard run. All three of those Bulldogs are juniors.

A senior did get in on the scoring as Tucker Hayes notched a safety on a messy night in which the Bulldogs fumbled seven times but didn't lose any. They were also penalized 16 times for 115 yards in the game originally scheduled to be played Friday.

Washington wound up with 170 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries while Moore ran for 70 with a TD on 11 carries. He also completed 7 of 13 passes for 57 yards, with Thames scoring touchdowns on two of his three receptions in the game.

Justice Clifton had half of the Bulldogs' four sacks, with Nicholas Carroll and Hayes adding one apiece in the dominant outing vs. the Hawks (1-4, 1-1).

Next week, Terry Sanford hosts three-time reigning AAC champion Pine Forest (3-2, 2-0) in a game that could determine this year's league boss.
