Opinion: Vacationing Means You Aren't Happy

    2024-01-03

Think about what it means to go on a vacation. Many people will say, "to get away for a bit." This implies that there is something in your life you don't like that you want to get away from. So, yes, going on vacation does mean that there is something in your life that you aren't happy with. It could be any number of things, such as your job, finances, home, location, etc. In many cases, it is the stress of one or more of these factors.

Now, keep in mind traveling often because you have the time and resources is a completely different story. You will even find that people word things differently when they vacation versus travel.

Now, imagine a world where you don't long for a once or twice-a-year vacation. You don't live in misery during the week just to get to the weekend. That's no way to live. It's time to find the contentment in your life so that you enjoy every day to the fullest.

Identify What You are Unhappy With

The first step is to identify why you are so unhappy that you yearn for vacations like it is your salvation. For me, it was my job. The 9-5 grind, knowing that I wasn't making a real difference in the world. If I ever left, they would just hire someone else. I wanted to do more with life than just live for the weekends and vacation time. This became even more painful as my family began to grow.

Take a Leap of Faith and Make a Change

Whether it is moving, changing jobs, or changing your lifestyle, now is the time to take a leap of faith and make a change. I left my 9-5, started my own business, and never looked back. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of hard work involved. In fact, I've never worked harder, but the rewards of being able to spend more time with my family and not dreading the workweek just to get to the weekend is incredible. I also find that I don't care about vacations as much. Now, I travel and explore, not vacation and "get away."

As this New Year begins, I challenge you to take that leap and make the changes you need so that you begin to enjoy life. Start traveling and stop vacationing.

What moron writes self-serving crap like this? Is it just an exercise in narcissism, or is the writer trying to promote themselves into a different kind of career?
