Clay's Shelby McClain is the Florida Times-Union's latest First Florida Credit Union Athlete of the Week for the 2023-24 high school sports season, covering the week of April 29-May 4 in the Jacksonville area.
The senior caught eight passes for 90 yards and a touchdown and helped the Blue Devils to a shutout on defense to win the Region 2-1A flag football championship.
She placed first in a vote of top Northeast Florida performers that included Jack Cox (Bolles boys lacrosse), Brian D'Errico (Beachside baseball), Zach Hyatt (Fleming Island boys tennis), Amiyah Jones (Baldwin softball), Brooke McCoy (Episcopal girls lacrosse), Mychaela Parker (Orange Park girls track), Madison Schramm-Santos (Ponte Vedra girls tennis), Jeffrey Simmons (Creekside boys volleyball), and Chavez Williams (Riverside boys track).

The Times-Union gathers nominees from scores, stats and nominations e-mailed to the sports desk during the week by coaches across Northeast Florida. Coaches can e-mail these stats and scores to preps@jacksonville.com.
This week's voting begins Monday morning and closes at 10 a.m. Thursday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour. Vote at jacksonville.com/sports.

Here are the nominees from May 6-11.
Ethan Binns, Bolles boys lacrosse
The attacker scored a team-high two goals in the Bulldogs' state semifinal, a 19-7 loss to Palm Beach Gardens Benjamin.
Esa Brenneman, Bartram Trail girls lacrosse
The freshman scored seven goals during the week, including a team-high five in the Class 2A championship victory over Tampa Plant, helping the Bears to their third consecutive FHSAA title.
Tyce Donnelly, Creekside boys volleyball
The junior recorded 17 kills and three blocks in the Knights' regional playoffs against Gulf Breeze and Lake Mary.
Reese Green, West Nassau softball
The senior center fielder went 3 for 3 with three runs scored, three stolen bases, a double and an RBI in the Warriors' 6-2 win over Suwannee in the Region 1-3A first round.
Katherine Kelly, Ponte Vedra girls track
The junior cleared a personal best of 11 feet, 3 3/4 inches to win the pole vault, helping the Sharks to the team championship for Region 1-3A.
Aidan King, Bishop Snyder baseball
The senior pitched a one-hit shutout with 20 strikeouts, adding a home run and a double at the plate, leading the Cardinals past Providence 3-0 in the Region 1-3A first round.
Jake Officer, Episcopal boys track
The junior won the Region 1-2A championships in the 800-meter run (1:55.05) as well as the 1,600 (4:17.96).
