Jaguars vs. Dolphins NFL Week 1 inactives: Thomas out, Ramsey active with pitch count

MIAMI GARDENS — The Jacksonville Jaguars are set to take on the Miami Dolphins with a 1 p.m. kickoff to start Week 1 of the regular season for both squads.

Jacksonville entered the game with just one player ruled out, safety Daniel Thomas who was downgraded to OUT on Saturday after being listed as questionable on Friday. Thomas practiced on a limited basis on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

As a result of Thomas' status, the Jaguars elevated safety Terrell Edmunds off of the team's practice squad via the league's standard elevation protocol.

For the Dolphins, the team entered Week 1 with designations for two players including cornerback Jalen Ramsey (hamstring) and receiver Malik Washington (quadricep). Ramsey was listed as questionable while Washington was ruled out.

The Jaguars' inactives include Thomas, offensive linemen Javon Foster and Cole Van Lanen and defensive linemen Esezi Otomewo, Jordan Jefferson and Jeremiah Ledbetter.

The Jaguars entered Week 1 nearly in perfect health. Thomas is the only player who appeared on the injury report on the first two days of the week, Wednesday and Thursday. Jaguars defensive lineman Arik Armstead appeared on Friday's injury report, given the day off for veteran rest.

The Dolphins' inactives include running back Jaylen Wright, CB Ethan Bonner, linebackers Channing Tindall and Mohamed Kamara, OL Andrew Meyer and Washington.

According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, while Ramsey is active, he's expected to be on a pitch count against the Jaguars, meaning he may not be on the field for every defensive snap.

Ramsey has a storied history with the Jaguars after being drafted by the team with the fifth-overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Three years after the selection, Ramsey left the team via trade after a disagreement with the front office and an opportunity for a fresh start in 2019.

After a short, three-year stint with the Los Angeles Rams, Ramsey was traded to the Miami Dolphins ahead of the 2023 season.

Last year, Ramsey played in and started 10 games for the Dolphins. He accounted for three interceptions, five pass breakups and 22 total tackles. He was recently made the highest-paid cornerback in league history... again.

If Ramsey does not play every snap against the Jaguars, look for backup corner Storm Duck to potentially take snaps covering one of Jacksonville's top wideouts.
