What Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Pederson had to say a day after the loss to Miami

Here are highlights of Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Pederson's news conference Monday at the Miller Electric Center, a day after the Jaguars lost to Miami 20-17 at Hard Rock Stadium.

On how tough a loss it is

“This is a tough one to deal with ... today we have to go back through it. I will say there was a lot of good, too, that came out of this football game. Things we can coach, teach and correct that we can show the guys. Yeah, games like this are obviously going to hurt.”

Did the fumble by Travis Etienne cost them the game?

“You take that play away or say you've made that play. You're in the end zone, it's 24-7 end of the third. And you're kicking off as opposed to giving them the ball on the 20. You can play should have, would have, could have all day long. The bottom line is we did not do enough to finish the football game.”

Did the offense get too conservative in the second half?

“I don't know what game you were watching. We had a drive that started at the 3-yard line and ripped off a 26-yard run, we came back and hit Gabe and TJ in the flat. Next thing you know we were at the [Miami] 15 and we fumble the ball. That's pretty aggressive to me in the second half.

“I elected to go for it on our end of the field, showing a sign of aggressiveness there. The defense did a great job of stopping them and [Miami] missing the kick so that was kind of a wash, so no, not at all. Third down was our nemesis.

How did the offensive line play?

“You rush for 128 yards on paper, great, right? Now we’ve got to do better in short yardage. We’ve got to do better in fourth-and-one, do better in certain areas. But overall I thought they played physical, They came off the football. We had a few communication errors that took us off some blocking schemes ... all things that we can fix, get better.”
