Jacksonville Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence flushes Miami Dolphins loss, on to Cleveland Browns

This isn’t Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s first rodeo.

After a comeback win for the Miami Dolphins where Lawrence and the Jaguars held a two-score advantage , it’s time to flush the game and refocus on the upcoming opponent.

It’s a process Lawrence has grown comfortable with. Not just in losses, either. Even after a win, you have to flush the last game and prepare for your next contest.

“At the end of the day, it is the NFL and you got to move on,” Lawrence said during his media availability on Wednesday. “If you're still thinking about how the game went on Sunday, on Wednesday — we're trying to get ready for the Browns. You can't be thinking about the Dolphins anymore.”

Lawrence opened the season completing 12 of 21 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown. He noted Sunday that he felt like he had to “make a play on that last drive” for the Jaguars .

On Wednesday, he clarified what more he could’ve done after watching the film back.

Lawrence said he should’ve stuck to his rules on second down and made a completion that would’ve made it third and manageable. Instead, he ended up getting sacked.

GENE FRENETTE: As much as Trevor Lawrence wants to win, it's secondary to his faith

“I just tried to try to accelerate my read a little bit too much and should have just stuck to my rules," he said. "Took an easy completion and kept it at third and manageable. I tried to scramble and ran right into a game with the [defensive end]. So that sacks on me.”

But aside from that and an earlier play in the game, Lawrence said he felt good about what he and the offense was able to do. Mentioning his accuracy throughout the game, specifically.

The stat line might not reflect it but Lawrence was able to complete some passes despite coverage and pressure from the Dolphins. It's clear that he hasn't dropped any confidence because of the way things unfolded on Sunday.

“Don't get too high or too low,” he said. “You can't be down in the dumps too much and beat yourself up and let it affect your confidence.”

Now, he moves on to face a Cleveland Browns defense that boasts one of the best players in the league in Myles Garrett and high-level cornerbacks Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome.

Still, as the fourth-year quarterback does in victory and defeat, it’s time for him to turn the page.

“We were in position to win [against the Dolphins] because of a great week of prep, and we didn't make a couple plays down the stretch," Lawrence said. "That's what happened, as simple as that. Move on to the next week.”
