Jaguars rule out DB Darnell Savage, Browns' Myles Garrett good to go with foot injury

The Jacksonville Jaguars are going to rely on a couple of backups this week against the Cleveland Browns as the injury bug hit the team's secondary during and after the Week 1 loss to the Miami Dolphins .

Jaguars cornerback Tyson Campbell was placed on injured reserve Wednesday and will miss at least the next four games of the season.

Jacksonville was relatively healthy headed into the game last week with only safety Daniel Thomas (achilles) ruled out ahead of Sunday. Thomas is expected to return to action, but the team will need reinforcements against Browns receivers Amari Cooper and Jerry Jeudy.

The Jaguars were quick to rule out defensive back Darnell Savage who suffered a quad injury during practice on Thursday. Savaged practiced in full on Wednesday before not participating on Thursday or Friday.

Already down their top corner, the Jaguars will look to rookie CB Jarrian Jones to take reps inside at nickel, while CB Montaric Brown will play outside in Campbell's absence as he did six times last season, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said on 1010 XL's Frank Frangie Show Friday.

Both linebacker Caleb Johnson (back) and defensive tackle Tyler Lacy (toe) are questionable to play but Pederson said Friday morning he expects all players excluding Savage to suit up.

Left tackle Cam Robinson appeared on the injury report Wednesday, but returned to practice in full on Friday. Thomas practice in full for the first time this year Friday and will likely resume his key role on special teams.

Meanwhile, the Browns are set to enter Week 2 without one of their top offensive linemen and tight end David Njoku (ankle)

Fifth-year tackle Jedrick Wills (knee) will miss Sunday's game against the Jaguars after missing last week, too. Wills is still recovering from a season-ending knee injury suffered last year. Cleveland could be down both starting tackles, though with Jack Conklin (knee) listed as questionable. He practiced limited all three days.

The Browns do not have any other players listed with a status for Sunday's game against the Jaguars.
