Jacksonville Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence knows why he's struggling, and key to playing better

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is headed back to the place where it all started.

Lawrence and the Jaguars will face the Houston Texans this Sunday, the first team he played as an NFL quarterback.

Back then he was the wide-eyed, No. 1 overall draft pick who was fresh off a two-loss collegiate career and poised to turnaround the misfortunes of Jacksonville.

Now, he’s fresh off a major contract extension , staring down the barrel of a winless start and is hoping to turnaround the misfortunes of Jacksonville.

“We're frustrated and the game the other night was just a disaster on pretty much every level,” Lawrence said during his media availability on Wednesday. “But we still have the confidence in our group, our coaches, our team. That's not going to change and that can't change.”

The team will try to shake off an embarrassing 47-10 drubbing on national television on Monday Night Football. A game that pushed Lawrence’s personal winless streak to more than 300 days.

His last win actually came against the Texans at NRG Stadium where Jacksonville slipped past C.J. Stroud in a 24-21 game last November.

He’ll be looking to have a repeat performance this week and finally deliver the team its first win four games into the season.

“It's kind of a mixture of the sense of urgency has to be there, this position we're in,” he said. “But you also have to do your job, and you can't get outside of what your job is and your responsibilities and try to do too much.”

Through three games this season, Lawrence has completed 52.8 percent of his passes for 560 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He hasn’t been perfect and that’s something he owns.

But he doesn’t feel like he’s pressing to make plays that aren’t there.

“There's been a couple times where progression wise, I've got a little too far ahead of myself or thought I saw something I didn't see, and I think those are majority of the mistakes,” Lawrence said. “But just got to keep trusting it. I think that's the main thing is keep trusting it.

"Trust what I see, trust my progression and just get the ball to our playmakers.”
