Trevor Lawrence comfortable with London trip, preparing for skilled Chicago Bears defense

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is used to taking the annual trip to London with the team. He’s played four games across the pond in his first three years in the league, holding a 3-1 record in those contests.

His first win as a professional came against the Miami Dolphins in London as a rookie . And the two games last season — victories over the Falcons and Bills — were pivotal to the Jaguars turning around their early season misfortunes.

He’s hoping for a similar result from this upcoming trip where the Jaguars will face the Chicago Bears and New England Patriots .

“Having the experience of going over there, you kind of know how to handle it, you know what to expect,” Lawrence said during his Wednesday media availability. “You know how you're going to feel.”

Lawrence spoke about some of the physical challenges of playing overseas with sleeping schedules and getting his body on track to play in a game.

It’s an adjustment he’s familiar with as he makes his fourth international trip this season.

“You're going to feel a little sluggish, a little groggy once you get over there, but you'll settle in quick,” he said. “I think a big part of it too is getting a lot of your prep done while you're here.”

That prep will come against a defense that is known for finding ways to get the football. The Bears have intercepted six passes and forced five fumbles already this season.

They’ve also made getting to the quarterback a habit, recording 17 sacks in five games.

To put those stats in perspective, Jacksonville's defense has recorded 13 sacks, forced two fumbles and has zero interceptions.

“From the numbers standpoint, since at some point last year up until now, they've been one of the top defenses in the league,” Lawrence said. “I think it pops on tape, just how they play, their effort.”

Lawrence had his best game of the season last week. It’ll take some effort on his part to duplicate his career-high 371 passing yards, while completing more than 82 percent of his passes and throwing two touchdowns.

However, Lawrence did have a turnover in the game, which brought his season total to two.

After spending the offseason emphasizing his need to cutback on giving the ball away, this game will test whether or not he’s truly made progress on that.

“I think that's one thing that definitely jumps off the tape,” Lawrence said. “When a ball is near them, they're going to make the play and make it more times than not.”
