Etowah County baseball roundup: Westbrook Christian advances to finals, Coosa Christian falls

Only one of the two Etowah County baseball teams playing in the semifinals advanced to the state title series.

Westbrook Christian swept Lauderdale County after a long weather delay while Coosa Christian fell to Sumiton Christian. Lets see how the series unfolded.

Westbrook Christian sweeps Lauderdale County

Game 1: Westbrook wins 6-4

Game 2 Westbrook wins 3-0

The Warriors used excellent pitching to advance to the second round. Dylan Rainey struck out 13 batters in the 6-4 win on four hits and two walks in the opener. William Chadwick also had three RBIs in game one. In the second game, Braden Kay dominated Lauderdale County with 13 strikeouts of his own while allowing three baserunners — two hits and one walk in the 3-0 win.

In the end of the 42 outs recorded by the Warriors, 26 came by strikeout.

Coosa Christian swept by Sumiton Christian

Game 1: Sumiton wins 11-6

Game 2: Sumiton wins 6-2

The longest season in Coosa Christian history ends at 18-22. This was the first semifinal appearance for the Conquerors.
