Coosa Christian football wasn't looking to make a statement when they hosted Fyffe on Friday . But following a 29-2 win over the Red Devils, the Conquerors left the field with an announcement to the rest of the teams on their schedule.

The Conquerors are ranked top-5 in the ASWA Class 2A rankings, but the statement win over Fyffe shows they should be regarded as one of the top teams. The No. 1 ranked team in 2A Pisgah also took down Fyffe this year, and they could be a team that the Conquerors have to go through to get to Birmingham.

For Coosa Christian coach Mark O'Bryant, he usually doesn't make statements publicly rather keeping them with his own team. He left Friday's result up to fans and media to decide.

"I don't know, that's for you to decide. My statement is with my team and we got to get ready for Cleveland," O'Bryant said. "I don't try to make any statements, that's not who I am, unless you betray me."

The win doesn't come as a major shock to Coosa Christian, which worked through an aggressive and tough non-region schedule that featured Pierce County (GA), Pell City and Tuscaloosa Academy, in addition to Fyffe. O'Bryant believes that the win won't feel different than other games.

"I think this was the third best team on the schedule, maybe the fourth best team. I thought before the year, I thought this would be the third or fourth best team on the schedule," O'Bryant said.

It's not just the 27 point win by the Conquerors that left a statement, it was how the game went, the Red Devils barely kept their 300+ no shutout streak alive with a bad snap on a punt for Coosa resulting in a safety. The Conquerors defense shut down the Fyffe offense to only 38 yards, on 36 rushes and 0-5 passing with three interceptions. The Conquerors came in with a plan to out physical Fyffe, and O'Bryant believes that they did.

"They couldn't move the ball on us. We shut them down. They got beat at what they do best and we played their game and we beat them," O'Bryant said.

The Warriors were led by J'Alan Terry with 83 yards and a score with Kanon Wilson adding another. While their coach didn't want to make a statement out of the game, his players including son Clete O'Bryant wanted to come out and prove that they are the Class 2A standard.

"That we're the standard, not them. It goes through us now," O'Bryant said.
