Florida softball live score updates form NCAA Gainesville Regional finals against South Alabama

Florida softball got plenty of time off its feet before its matchup with South Alabama in 2024 NCAA Gainesville Regional Finals on Sunday.

Florida will get a rematch with South Alabama in the regional finals after the Jaguars, powered by two home runs from catcher Sasha Willems, beat Florida Gulf Coast University 5-1 late Saturday night.

The Florida Gators (48-12) advanced to the finals with a 9-1 win over South Alabama and have won 10 straight overall. Florida has outscored its first two regional opponents by a combined score of 15-1.

"This is an offensive team," Florida coach Tim Walton said "That's the thing you can pretty much tell by what we're doing, and all of our decisions this year are based on offense, trying to score more runs, just because we've got a younger (pitching) staff we're trying to get as many runs as we can ... to me it's an offensive team that's getting better defensively."

South Alabama will need to beat the Gators twice on Sunday to claim the regional title. The second game, if necessary, would take place at approximately 6:30 p.m.

"We're in survive and advance mode," South Alabama coach Becky Clark said. "Obviously they are a very good ballcclub. We played them close today. It would close until it wasn't. And I thought we were aggressive today, we competed."
