A dream season for Florida women's lacrosse came to an end in the NCAA Final Four on Friday afternoon against Northwestern.

The Florida Gators were unable to summon enough energy after a lengthy weather delay in a 15-11 loss the Wildcats in Cary, N.C.

Florida trailed 10-9 at the end of the third quarter when the lightning came, forcing both teams to sit for 55 minutes before the game resumed. When it did, Northwestern pounced, scoring three straight goals to take a 13-9 lead.

Maggi Hall kept Florida in the match, scoring five goals. Danielle Pavinelli added three goals for UF. It was a rough afternoon for goaltender Elyse Finnelle, who allowed 13 goals and made 8 saves. Finnelle was replaced in the fourth quarter by backup goaltender Georgia Hoye, who surrendered two more goals.

The loss snapped a 20-match win streak for the Gators, who finished the 2024 season at 20-3.
