Police responded to a call Friday morning around 4:30 a.m. about a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle.

Police said the man was struck and killed while walking on Bessemer City Road between Northwest Boulevard and Interstate 85.

The pedestrian was later identified by family as Matthew Garver, 49, of Bessemer City.

His wife, Amy Garver, said she and Matthew were married one year ago and worked together for her company.

"Anything I wanted, pretty much, he'd always try to help me," she said. "He had a good personality."

Matthew Garver leaves behind two children.

"We want answers," Amy Garver said.

Police are still investigating the crash and said they have so far not pressed charges against the driver that is cooperating.

The name of the driver has not been released.
