A Gaston County school bus was struck from behind this morning on Myrtle School Road after a driver in a 2017 Chevrolet pick-up truck failed to reduce speed.

Two children were on board at the time though Bill McGinty, spokesman for the Gastonia Police Department, said there were no injuries.

The children were transferred to another bus, and the woman driving was cited for failure to reduce speed, McGinty said.

Other local officials have released information since the first day of school to help drivers decipher safe driving habits regarding school buses.

The Belmont Police Department shared several informational posts and demonstration photos on social media for drivers in need of a refresher.
