A man was arrested Wednesday and accused of robbing a pharmacy in Belmont that was just down the street from his own home, according to the Belmont Police Department.

Cody Alexander Gardner, 29, of Belmont, is accused of going to the College Park Pharmacy about 1 p.m., pulling out a handgun, and demanding money, according to Capt. Matthew Sherrill.

Afterward, Gardner is alleged to have run away from the pharmacy, but a police dog tracked him to his home on Dunn Street in Belmont, which is less than half a mile away from the pharmacy.

He was arrested there without incident, Sherrill said.

Gardner was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon. Further charges are possible.

There were cops everywhere today. Happy for the Dog. I hope he gets extra treats tonight. If you’re gonna rob a place that is walking distance from where you live, you better be fast.
