    VOTE: Gastonia, Shelby nominees for Week 9 high school football player, team of the week

    Following a busy Week 9 of high school football in Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln counties , here’s your opportunity to get in on the action.

    Vote for who you believe was tri-county football’s top player and team from Week 9.

    Player of the week nominations are compiled courtesy of information obtained by The Gaston Gazette and Shelby Star by coaches, athletic directors or team statisticians through emails, MaxPreps, game results and highlights posted to social media. If a top performer’s name doesn’t appear on the list, encourage their coach to email submissions to jhughes@gastongazette.com or sports@gastongazette.com.

    WEEK 9 FOOTBALL HONOR ROLL: Gastonia, Shelby area high school football: Week 9 game balls, top performers

    Team of the Week

    • Ashbrook: defeated South Point, 17-14
    • Burns: knocked off East Gaston, 49-20.
    • Cherryville: defeated Thomas Jefferson, 22-15.
    • Crest: defeated Forestview, 30-0.
    • Hunter Huss: defeated North Gaston, 46-0.
    • Kings Mountain: defeated Stuart Cramer, 41-0.
    • Lincolnton: thumped East Burke, 38-0.
    • Mountain Island Charter: defeated Bishop McGuinness, 35-14
    • North Lincoln: won 42-7 over Foard.
    • Shelby: won 49-0 over Bessemer City.
    • West Lincoln: defeated West Caldwell, 50-27.

    Player of the Week

    • Landon Agee, North Lincoln: Ran for 77 yards and a touchdown on six carries, in addition to a 62-yard TD reception.
    • Jayden Gash, Kings Mountain: Caught a touchdown pass for the fourth consecutive game, part of a Mountaineer win at Stuart Cramer.
    • Elijah Goodson, Burns: Rushed for a touchdown, in addition to two interceptions, one which was returned for a TD.
    • Grayson Harvey, Mountain Island Charter: Completed 10 of 19 passes for 175 yards and three touchdowns on a night in which he became Gaston County’s all-time leading passer.
    • Camron Mayfield, Ashbrook: Forced a fumble and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown, in addition to an interception.
    • Tristan Tate, Shelby: Ran for 132 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries.
    • Jaylin Winnex, West Lincoln: Rushed for 278 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries.
