Greenville native Samuel Lowery placed second in the middleweight novice division of Alabama’s Strongest Man 12th competition on Saturday, Aug. 17.

The competition was held at The Hangout in Gulf Shores. The men’s middleweight novice competition features male powerlifters under 231 pounds.

Lowery graduated from Fort Dale Academy in 2022 where he was an outstanding student athlete who received the honor of Most Outstanding Choral Student in 2022. He attends the University of Mobile where he is studying worship leadership and serves as the Contemporary Worship Pastor for First Baptist Church in Gulf Shores.

Sanctioned by the Strongman Corporation, the powerlifting competition features strength and endurance contests for men and women, bringing together some of Alabama’s most powerful athletes. Athletes tackle a variety of trials including the odd object press medley, box deadlift, keg carry, head-to-head Dinnie ring hold and kegs over the bar lift.
