Corrections and clarifications

• An Eyewitness photo from Italy (15 August, p20) showed lightning in the sky above the Tuscan city of Siena, rather than above the Castello di Torrechiara in the province of Parma as the caption said. This was in print only.

• The French singer Zaho de Sagazan opened the Olympic closing ceremony in the Tuileries gardens, not at Versailles ( A final show of glory as Paris passes the flame to Los Angeles , 12 August, p48).
