    Dripping Springs High School girls aquatics team places second at district

    DRIPPING SPRINGS — Fourteen members of the Dripping Springs High School swimming and diving teams qualified for the Region VII-6A Championships after placing in the top six in their respective events at the District 26-6A Championships on Jan. 25-26 at the Round Rock ISD Aquatics Center. The girls team captured runner-up honors behind seven top-two finishes. Macie McCurry repeated as the district champion in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.18 and also set a school record in the 100-yard freestyle with 52.28 for second place. Anna Hoskovec took home a pair of silver medals in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle races. She also teamed up with her sister Laurel Hoskovec, McCurry and Amaya Fayad to take second place in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The Hoskovec sisters, McCurry and Izzy Boldrick claimed runner-up honors in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Rounding out the silver medals was Audrey Wilson in one-meter diving. The girls team qualified for regionals in 12 events including all three relays. The Hoskovec sisters, Boldrick and McCurry each advanced in four events apiece, while Fayad and Sydney Stalbaum qualified in three events and Wilson and Brooke Thompson each advanced in one event. The boys squad claimed fifth place at district with Jordan Ledbetter capturing the first 6A individual title for the program with his victory in the 100-yard breaststroke, with a time of 1:00.90. Ledbetter, along with Zach Collins and Nolan Granger, qualified for regionals in four events. The Tigers broke a pair of school records in the relays with the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Collins, Charlie Hovatter, Connor Caffrey and Landon Bucher setting a new standard with a time of 1:28.09 to finish in third place. Granger, Ledbetter, Caffrey and Bucher also broke the record in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:14.61 for fourth place. In total, the boys qualified for regionals in nine events with all three relay teams advancing. Head coach Michael Hoskovec was named the District 26-6A Boys Coach of the Meet. The Region VII-6A Championship will be held Feb. 8-10 at the Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio.
