Beshear announces nearly $850,000 for rubber mulch projects
Gov. Andy Beshear announced May 13 that $847,878 will be awarded to 23 counties, including Perry, for projects using recycled rubber. Projects range from park benches, picnic tables, landscaping, parking curbs, poured-in-place surfacing projects for walking trails, poured-in-place running track and poured-in-place playgrounds that use recycled waste tires, according to a statement from the governor's office.
Hazard rolls past Buckhorn
Hazard didn’t have any trouble in the opening round of the 54th District Tournament against Buckhorn Monday as the Bulldogs rolled to a 15-0 win in three innings of play. With the win, Hazard (21-11) advances to take on Leslie County in the 54th District Tournament. That game was scheduled to take place last night.
Workshop offers unique opportunity for teachers
Patrick Hall, a history and political science teacher at Hazard High School and a teacher leader with the Holocaust Education Initiative, will be hosting a paid virtual workshop for regional teachers on May 29. The workshop offers 10 hours of credit or a $250 stipend and is supported by the University of Kentucky.

Shrinking funds causes growing concern for child advocacy groups
Local and state organizations aiding crime victims, such as rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters and child advocacy centers, are raising concerns over a significant funding decrease spanning multiple years. Four charged with stealing water service
Four people were cited recently on charges that they were stealing water service from the City of Hazard. According to court documents, in each case, water service to the residences had been cut off.
