SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY – Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County (CAPSBC) is offering assistance to those affected by the recent Line and Bridge wildfires.

The organization activated their S.W.E.A.T.S. Program – Severe Weather Energy Assistance and Transportation Services.

“The Governor of California declared a State of Emergency for San Bernardino County, due to the Line and Bridge fires. In response, we activate SWEATS to address the urgent needs of households affected by an emergency or crisis, such as a natural disaster, energy supply shortage or disruption,” reads a statement on the website.

They are offering eligible San Bernardino County residents assistance with temporary housing, transportation and other services as needed.

Call 909-723-1617 or visit capsbc.org for more information.

    Other assistance available

The Inland SoCal United Way is also providing financial assistance to those affected by wildfire in Southern California.

Although applications have exceeded funding currently available, all new applications will be placed on a wait list.

Households in Riverside County, San Bernardino County, and The Pomona Valley Region of East Los Angeles County who meet the eligibility requirements can receive $750 in direct financial assistance to pay for costs incurred due to wildfires.

According to the website assistance can be used to help replace lost items or to help pay for hotel stays, deposits on new housing, or other fire-related needs.

Individual assistance will be determined based on demonstrated need.

    Disaster Unemployment Assistance

The Employment Development Department (EDD) said they provide a variety of services to individuals and businesses affected by disasters in California.

Generally, there is a one-week waiting period for individuals obtaining Unemployment Insurance (UI).

The Governor’s Emergency Proclamations waive the non-payable one-week waiting period for individuals affected by current disasters. This means individuals can be paid benefits for the first week they are unemployed due to the disaster.
