CALIFORNIA – Payless Power published a report, last month, listing the most expensive cities to cool a home in America.

Seven cities in California came in the top 10, with Victorville taking the 5th most expensive city to cool a home in the US.

Researchers say they analyzed electricity rates, home sizes, local climates, and energy efficiency, to shed light on the financial impact of keeping a home comfortable during the hottest months of the year.

Where residents face the highest and lowest expenses

Indio took the top spot for most expensive city to cool a home in the US. Other cities in California are Bakersfield (2), Victorville (5), San Bernardino (6), Fresno (7), Modesto (8), and Moreno Valley (9).

McAllen, Texas came in third on the list with Brownsville, Texas at fourth and Glendale, Arizona in the number 10 spot.

The cheapest cities to cool a home are Anchorage, Denver, and Seattle.

Californians pay $12.6 billion more than other states for electricity

California’s residential prices were the highest among the contiguous states and DC.

According to the Center for Jobs and the Economy, the California average residential price for the 12 months ended June 2024 was 30.61 cents/kWh – 100.1% higher than the US average of 15.30 cents/kWh for all other states.

This translates into residential ratepayers paying $12.6 billion more than the average ratepayers elsewhere in the US using the same amount of energy.

The state’s high electricity costs are due to a combination of factors that include renewable energy mandates, strict environmental regulations, numerous public utility charges, and high maintenance costs to prevent wildfires.

Democrats have had a strong hold in CA for decades. They have ignored the states infrastructure year over year and have implemented higher taxes year over year. The voters are doing this to themselves. Vote red and save your state and your money. Turn it around. Make CA affordable again.
