A crossing guard has been injured after being hit by a vehicle outside a high school in Fort Mill Tuesday morning, police said.

A collision between two-vehicles happened after 8 a.m. on Fort Mill Parkway near Catawba Ridge High School , said Capt. Steven Bivins of the Fort Mill Police Department . One of the vehicles in the crash then struck the person directing traffic, according to a written statement from the department.

The crossing guard and one of the drivers involved were transported to area hospitals, police said. The extent of injuries is unclear.

Police have not identified any of the people involved.

As of 1 p.m. Tuesday no charges had been filed, Fort Mill police chief Bryan Zachary said. The crash remains under investigation, according to Zachary.

The incident happened around the time students arrive for school. The crash delayed traffic outside the school after emergency responders temporarily closed the road. Fort Mill Parkway re-opened around 9:30 a.m.

Fort Mill schools asked parents who drop off students in the morning to use the another campus entrance near the athletic complex, said Joe Burke, district spokesperson. The district did not have additional information about the incident Tuesday afternoon and as of 1 p.m. had not released any statement to parents, Burke said.

Tuesday’s incident is the second involving a crossing guard outside a Fort Mill school in 2024. Crossing guard Stanley Brucker, 61, died March 21 after a vehicle struck him in front of the bus loop entrance to Fort Mill Elementary School and Fort Mill Middle School, authorities said.

No charges were filed in that March case.
