    Clear Spring’s Dawson Kehr and North's Avery Byard voted Athletes of the Week

    Clear Spring’s Dawson Kehr and North Hagerstown’s Avery Byard were voted The Herald-Mail’s Washington County high school athletes of the week for April 1-6 .

    The voting was conducted online Monday afternoon through noon Wednesday.

    Kehr, a senior baseball player, earned the boys honor with 39.09% of the vote (197 votes). He pitched six shutout innings with 13 strikeouts in a 2-0 win over Walkersville.

    Byard, a senior lacrosse player, was the girls winner with 47.48% of the vote (301 votes). She scored four goals against Tuscarora, surpassing the 100-goal career milestone, and then scored four goals in a win over Baltimore Poly.

    The other girls nominees were South Hagerstown’s Brooke Buhrman (softball) and Saint James’ Renee Sullivan (lacrosse).

    The other boys nominees were South’s Thurman Harold (lacrosse) and North’s Gabe Ohaegbue (track).
