An Inwood, W.Va., man is dead after a shooting Monday evening at a Martinsburg, W.Va., motel, according to a news release from the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies responded shortly after 8 p.m. to a report of shots fired at the Economy Inn at 1620 Winchester Ave., the release said, and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. David Scott Bennett, 65, of Inwood, was taken to Berkeley Medical Center, where he later died.

The release identified Michael Allen Taylor, 38, of Martinsburg as an "other involved party," but said that the incident was under investigation. The sheriff's department does not believe there is a further active threat to the public from the incident, it said.

No further information was being released at this time.
