A Hagerstown man was in critical condition Tuesday morning at a Baltimore hospital after being struck by a vehicle Monday night on U.S. 340, authorities said.

Maryland State Police are investigating the incident, which occurred on westbound U.S. 340 in southern Washington County. State police were dispatched shortly after 7 p.m. for the pedestrian struck call.

State police are asking anyone who might have witnessed the incident or who has relevant information about it to contact the Hagerstown barrack at 301-766-3800, according to a State Police news release. Callers may remain confidential.

The pedestrian, Stanley Wilt, 59, of Hagerstown, was flown to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland in Baltimore on Monday night, according to the release and Cpl. James Grinnan.

Wilt was in critical condition on Tuesday morning, according to a University of Maryland Medical System spokesperson.

The preliminary investigation found the driver of a 2016 Nissan Rogue was heading west on U.S. 340 when the pedestrian was struck in the left lane, the release states.

The driver, Channing Corley, 45, of Germantown, Md., was not injured during the incident, state police said in the release.

State police spokesperson Elena Russo said Corley stopped at the scene and has been cooperating with police.
