    Check out Washington County's Week 6 high school football matchups and predictions

    It's Week 6 of the Washington County high school football season .

    There are five games Thursday, including a pair of intra-county showdowns, and one game Friday.

    Here are the matchups with predictions. (Last week, we correctly picked the winners in four of the six games, moving our season record to 17-10.)

    Thursday's games

    Saint James Saints (4-2) at Maret Frogs (4-1), 4 p.m.

    Series record: Saints lead, 29-15.

    Last meeting: Maret 51, Saint James 21 (Oct. 14, 2023)

    Last week: Saint James beat Allegany 37-33 ; Maret beat Woodlawn 35-0.

    Notes: Each team has won two straight. … Saints QB Jayden Yates had his best game of the year in last week's comeback win over Allegany, passing for 216 yards and three touchdowns and running for 110 yards and a TD. … Calvin Moss had four catches for 110 yards and two TDs in the Saint James victory. … Roman Jensen, who had four TD passes and a pair of TD runs to lead the Frogs over the Saints last year, is now on the Maryland Terrapins ' roster.

    Prediction: Saint James 31, Maret 28

    Smithsburg Leopards (0-5) at Clear Spring Blazers (3-2), 6 p.m.

    Series record: Leopards lead, 19-1.

    Last meeting: Smithsburg 22, Clear Spring 0 (Oct. 6, 2023)

    Last week: Smithsburg lost to North Hagerstown 34-7; Clear Spring lost to Albert Gallatin 41-21.

    Notes: The Blazers' lone win over the Leopards was a 24-22 decision in 2019. … Since then, Smithsburg has outscored them 112-14 in four straight wins, with the last three being shutouts. … With a victory, Clear Spring would equal the 2010 team for the program's best start through six games and match last year's win total. … The Leopards are aiming to avoid their first 0-6 start since 1997. … The last two times they started 0-5, in 2013 and 2016, they defeated the Blazers in Week 6. … Against North last week, Smithsburg QB Carter Nesbitt passed for 167 yards and a touchdown in his first game since Week 1, while Alex Bachtell shined in his season debut for the Leopards, catching seven passes for 115 yards and a TD. … The teams have had one common opponent this season in Williamsport, which defeated Smithsburg 34-12 in Week 2 and beat Clear Spring 19-7 in Week 4.

    Prediction: Clear Spring 21, Smithsburg 20

    North Hagerstown Hubs (1-4) at Williamsport Wildcats (3-2), 6 p.m.

    Series record: Hubs lead, 21-14.

    Last meeting: North 70, Williamsport 34 (Oct. 6, 2023)

    Last week: North beat Smithsburg 34-7 ; Williamsport lost to Boonsboro 35-14.

    Notes: Last year's matchup was epic as the Hubs and Wildcats combined for 995 yards of offense and 759 yards passing, both records for a game between two Washington County teams. … Although both quarterbacks from that game have graduated, Williamsport first-year starter Gabe Parker leads the county this season in completions (68), passing yards (1,144) and TD passes (12). … Against Smithsburg last week, North erupted for 322 rushing yards, nearly doubling its previous best single-game output this year. … Germanus Abonge led the Hubs' ground attack against the Leopards, running for 123 yards and two touchdowns.

    Prediction: Williamsport 28, North 21

    Poolesville Falcons (0-5) at Boonsboro Warriors (4-1), 7 p.m.

    Series record: Warriors lead, 7-0.

    Last meeting: Boonsboro 49, Poolesville 0 (Oct. 6, 2023)

    Last week: Poolesville lost to Rockville 42-6; Boonsboro beat Williamsport 35-14.

    Notes: At 4-1, the Warriors are off to their best start since 2016, when they had a 9-1 regular season. … Boonsboro's Parker DeBaugh, who ran for 175 yards and three touchdowns in last week's win over Williamsport, leads the county in TDs this year with nine. … Boonsboro QB Colin Telemeco, who was injured early in a Week 4 loss to Middletown, returned against the Wildcats and completed five passes for 135 yards, connecting twice with Blake Main for 88 yards. … Poolesville has been outscored 258-6 this year.

    Prediction: Boonsboro 49, Poolesville 0

    Football: Washington County Week 5 roundup

    Hancock Panthers (1-4) at Stonewall Jackson Generals (2-4), 7 p.m.

    Series record: Generals lead, 2-0.

    Last meeting: Stonewall Jackson 41, Hancock 0 (Sept. 5, 1997)

    Last week: Hancock lost to Clay-Battelle 35-13; Stonewall Jackson beat the Virginia Spartans 52-16.

    Notes: Stonewall Jackson, whose school named changed to Mountain View in 2020, had its name restored this year. … Hancock ranks second in the county in rushing yards this season with 954, led by Aiden McCarty (264), Jayten McCarty (239) and Jacob Anderson (215). … Aiden McCarty has scored four touchdowns this year, two on offense and two on defense, and has three TD passes, all to Shawn Thomas. … Anderson has four TD runs.

    Prediction: Stonewall Jackson 34, Hancock 21

    Friday's game

    South Hagerstown Rebels (1-4) at Jefferson Cougars (2-3), 7 p.m.

    Series record: Cougars lead, 6-4.

    Last meeting: Jefferson 34, South 15 (Oct. 6, 2023)

    Last week: South lost to Thomas Johnson 13-7 (OT); Jefferson beat Hedgesville 42-13.

    Notes: South's Michael Owens Jr. made his first start at quarterback last week, completing 11 of 17 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. … His top target was Cahauri Alford, who had six catches for 62 yards and a score. … The Rebels' JoJo Davis continues to lead the county in rushing yards with 457. … Jefferson's Dylan Harich passed for 380 yards and five touchdowns in last week's win over Hedgesville.

    Prediction: Jefferson 28, South 14
