Here's the readers choice for the 2023-24 Herald News Athletes, Coach and Team of the Year

FALL RIVER — The Herald News is pleased to announce last month's high school winners of the Male Athlete of the Year , Female Athlete of the Year , Coach of the Year and Team of the Year .

Nearly 24,000 votes were recorded in the four polls combined and the results are in. Here's who the readers in the Greater Fall River area selected as their winners.

The winner of the 2023-24 Male Athlete of the Year is Somerset Berkley hockey goalie Brandon Silva, who captured first place with 48.14% of the vote (1,582). Case's football and baseball player Lucas Saltmarsh placed second after receiving 19.17% and Aiden Borges finished third at 18.72%

The 2023-24 Female Athlete of the Year winner is Case track and field star Hannah Santos, who gathered 54.94% (2,246 total votes). Durfee's three-sport athlete Maggie O'Connell took second place at 16.14%. Diman's track and field athlete Grace Flattery came in third at 10.79%

The Coach of the Year honors goes to Somerset Berkley first-year baseball coach Jason Martin , who took first place with 71.14% (6,686 votes). Longtime Diman head coach Floriano Lima was second in the voting (18.04%) while four-time state softball champion Shannon Silva finished in third (2.14%).

The 2023-24 Team of the Year goes to the Diman track and field squad, who received 4,156 total votes (62.75%). The Joseph Case volleyball team placed second at 30.29%. The Division 5 state champion Westport boys soccer team took third place (2.97%)
