    Here's the readers choice for the Herald News all-time greats for Fall sports

    FALL RIVER — It was a record-breaking, number of voting in the Herald News summer series to see which all-time athlete had Mount Rushmore status in the Greater Fall River area during the fall campaign.

    Over 281,000 votes were submitted for the greatest athletes of eight seperate sports in the fall with football tallying the most at 77,380 total votes. There were close races across the board and with some surprises.

    The results are in and here's who the readers in the Greater Fall River area selected as their winners:

    The winner for the football poll was Joseph Case running back Adam Silva, who beat out Durfee lineman Tim White. Silva compiled 39,373 total votes (50.88%) for first place. White had 44.11% of the vote (34,132 votes). Somerset Berkley back Rick Kowalski took third (2.94%).

    The boys soccer poll winner was Westport's Rui Almeida, who had 4,941 total votes (39.02%). Diman's Carlos Couto finished in second (26.90%) while Durfee's Andrew Sousa placed third (11.59%).

    Somerset Berkley's Samantha Borges won the girls soccer poll in the closest race for all sports. Borges had 24,810 total votes (35.31%) for first place. Durfee's Tiffany Correia ended with 24,690 votes (35.14%) for second place. Joseph Case's Beth Messier (11.15%) took third place.

    In the golf poll , A.J. Guidotti surprised the favorite — Somerset Berkley's Jim McDermott —to sneak away with a first-place finish with 9,541 total votes (41.14%). McDermott came with with 34.06% while Durfee's Paul Saunders (12.42%) came in third place.

    Case graduate Megan Smith was a runaway winner for the field hockey poll with 20,917 total votes (48.54%). Case alumni Emily Halkett took second place (19.06%) while Somerset Berkley's Lucas Crook came in third (10.13%).

    Durfee's Andrea Costa came out on top in the girls volleyball poll with 8,563 votes (43.55%). Fellow Hilltopper Stephanie Valente finished in second place in the voting (32.61%). Case's Jamie Moniz followed with a third-place showing (14.49%).

    Case's Mike Hallal was the winner in the boys cross country poll with 42.22% of the vote. Durfee's Ronnie Ferreira took second (16.11%) and Somerset Berkley's Phil Lussier was third (10.56%).

    Case's Sheela Agrawal came from behind to beat out Durfee's Maggie Connell in the girls cross country voting . Agrawal placed first with 20,185 total votes (57.96%). Connell ended in second place (37.95%) and Somerset Berkley's Susan Rotsky (1.98%) finished in third place.
