Atlantis Charter/Westport football team looks overcome transfer of star QB

FALL RIVER — Early in the spring, the Atlantis Charter/Westport co-op football had their 2024 season dramatically altered.

Sophomore star quarterback Davion Adediran transferred to powerhouse Catholic Memorial, which won consecutive state titles in 2022 and 2023. Adediran led the way for Tritons for the past two seasons.

"I'm so proud of Davion, obviously he earned that," ACS third-year head coach Kazeem Adediran said. "As a father and as a head coach I had to cut that umbilical cord going forward. But to lose someone who was young, old soul, the leadership, poised and even had the elder statesman, he brought a lot to the team."

Davion Adediran had a terrific season for the Tritons as freshman in 2023. The Tritons quarterback accounted for 20 touchdowns, passed for over 2,000 yards and rushed for 591 yards. He also converted four 2-point conversions and finished the season with 13 touchdown passes (second in the area).

Despite the loss, Kazeem Adediran said he prep his team for the upcoming season.

"I'm excited for my upcoming seniors, who are willing and able after talking with them in the summer" he said. "They knew for quite some time he was not returning. Everyone has been prepared to step up."

ACS/Westport (2-8) got off to a hot start last season before dropping its final eight games. Now the Tritons look to turn things around. Fourty-one players are on the roster.

Back for his final season is four-year starter Devon Paradise. The senior athletic star, who was a Herald News All-Scholastic first team as a junior, has a multi-position skill set. Senior Djouby Antoine is a track star turned football player. He has the ability to track the ball on defense and large frame to make big plays on offense.

Junior wide receiver Collyn Viveiros, a Herald News All-Scholastic first teamer, led the Tritons with six receiving touchdowns as a sophomore and has sure hands as well as playing solid defense. Junior Marvin Antoine is an all-purpose running back that is dual threat out of the backfield.

Junior lineman Dason Rooks is starting his third straight year, protecting the quarterback's blindside while also on defense disrupting offenses. Rooks is a second team Herald News All-Scholastic member.

Westport eighth grader Anthony LeRoux is competing for the starting quarterback job with sophomore Brendan Carpenter.

ACS/Westport begins the season with three consecutive home games, starting with St. John Paul II in the season opener.

"Last year, we were on the road a lot, even though I do enjoy those roads trips," Kazeem Adediran said, "it feels good to go back-to-back-to-back. We're trying to take advantage of that. But either way, the matra is protect home field."
