    Indigenous Peoples' Day cultural celebration: October at Heritage State Park in Fall River

    FALL RIVER — Heritage State Park is closing its summer season with more hands-on history, exhibits and a celebration of Indigenous Peoples' Day.

    Visitors can find themselves painting and drawing outdoors, creating wearable art and learning about the history of the Wampanoag people and textiles.

    The season ends on Saturday, Oct. 26. The Visitor Center will close that day, and reopen on Sunday, Nov. 10.

    The Visitor Center is located at 100 Davol St. in the Capt. Thomas J. Hudner Jr. Memorial Building.

    All programs are free and open to the public. An adult must accompany children. Free parking is available in the DCR parking lot at 5 Water St. For more information, call 508-675-5759, Ext. 0.

    Plein Air: Create Your Own Art in the Park

    Saturday, Oct. 5, 12:30 to 3 p.m., pollinator garden/picnic area

    Learn how to draw, and let the park be your inspiration. All materials will be provided free of charge. This is an event for the whole family. Presented by artists from the Greater Fall River Art Association. For more information, call 508-675-5759, Ext. 0.

    Dyeing To Wear It: Dyeing for Fiber Art

    Sunday, Oct. 6, 12:30 to 3 p.m., Visitor Center

    In this interactive workshop, each participant will create a piece of wearable art. Classes are infused with storytelling by textile artist Rhonda Fazio.     Indigenous Peoples' Day: Meet The Pocassets

    Monday, Oct. 14, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Visitor Center

    This day of cultural celebration is presented by the Pocasset Tribe of the Wampanoag Nation, the Trustees.org, the Greater Fall River Art Association and the Lafayette-Durfee House. Share Indigenous Peoples' Day with our Pocasset Wampanoag neighbors, with a day of storytelling, arts and crafts, nature adventures, and cultural and historical exhibits.     Textile Demonstration Station

    Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays through Oct. 19, 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., Visitor Center

    Discover how the people in Fall River's factories transformed cotton into cloth. See spinning in action, get familiar with the loom, and learn about the workers who made the factories run. For all ages.
