DAYTON — Bryan College recently announced the appointment of Dr. Kathryn Saynes as the new Vice President for Academics.

“An esteemed alumna of the college, Dr. Saynes brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to educational excellence that will further enhance Bryan’s academic programs,” school officials said.

Saynes earned her doctor of education from Northcentral University and holds a master of arts in instructional leadership from Tennessee Technological University. She began her educational journey at Bryan College, where she received her bachelor of science in liberal arts: elementary education. Additionally, she is a certified professional educator through the Association of Christian Schools International.

With several years of impactful teaching experience in middle school mathematics in the Rhea County area, Saynes returned to her alma mater to share her expertise with future educators. Over the years, she has held various roles at Bryan, including Education Department Chair, Faculty Chair, Curriculum Committee Chair, and most recently, Dean of Professional Studies and Bryan College Online. Her leadership has been marked by a passion for nurturing future teachers to serve in their chosen capacities.

Saynessaid she is proud of her family’s deep ties to the Bryan community; her husband, Nick, serves as a captain with the Chattanooga Fire Department. Their daughter, Kayla, is a freshman at Bryan, majoring in business, while their daughter, Lily, is a high school senior planning to attend Bryan next year as a psychology major.

Their family has been an integral part of the Bryan community for 16 years,” school officials said.

In her own words, Dr. Saynes reflects on her journey, stating, “I have had the privilege to walk beside students and faculty in both joy and grief. They have also lifted me up during similar seasons in my life. The community is what drew me to Bryan as a student and what keeps me here. My time at Bryan was transformational as a student and continues to be as I continue to learn and grow in my various roles. I’m excited to take on this new role and to see how we can continue to improve our service to students in Academics.”

“At Bryan College, our mission is educating students to become servants of Christ to make a difference in today’s world,” school officials said. “Dr. Saynes’ dedication to this mission aligns with the college’s goal of equipping students for meaningful service and leadership in their communities. The Bryan College community is excited about her new role as Vice President for Academics and looks forward to her leadership as the college continues to provide a Christ-centered education.”
