Spring City holds Blooms Festival
The Spring City Tourism and Events Commission hosted a Blooms Festival on Saturday, May 4. The event took place along Front Street in downtown Spring City from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Blooms Festival will include carriage rides, over 50 food and craft vendors and tons of flowers, as well as live music. TVA awards over $3M to help make schools safer, more energy efficient
KNOXVILLE — The Tennessee Valley Authority announced that 106 schools across its Southeast region will have more money back into their budgets and cleaner air thanks to over $3 million in grants for energy and learning environment upgrades. These grants are awarded as part of TVA’s nationally recognized School Uplift program — which has saved participating schools an average of 10% on their energy bills annually through behavioral changes alone. Dayton library unveils ‘Storybook Trail’
Dayton's Clyde W. Roddy Library, in conjunction with the City of Dayton and a grant from Governor's Early Literacy Foundation, recently installed a 'Storybook Trail' at Swinging Bridge Park in Dayton. Clyde W. Roddy Library Director Brittany West said that 17 panels have been installed along the walking track with pages from the children's book 'The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear' at each panel. West said the goal of the installation is to encourage a love of reading, imagination, movement and the outdoors.

Rhea's March unemployment rate at 3.6 percent
NASHVILLE — Newly released data from the Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD) documented unemployment rates below 5 percent in each of Tennessee’s 95 counties in March. County unemployment rates for the month range from 2.2 percent to 4.6 percent. Rhea County’s March unemployment rate was 3.6 percent, close to the February unemployment rate of 3.5 percent. Drug Take Back Day held on Saturday
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day was held on Saturday at both the Dayton Walmart, pictured above, and the Spring City Police Department. The event allowed residents to dispose of unused, unwanted and expired prescription and over-the-county medications. The project is funded under a grant contract with the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, in conjunction with the Rhea County Coalition and the Hamilton County Coalition.
