Reed City council approves rezoning on Mill Street to commercial
REED CITY — The Reed City city council approved a request to rezone the parcel at 715 Mill St. from R2-residential to C2-commercial during its meeting July 8 by a vote of 5-2 with council members Trevor Guiles and David Beldon voting no. Guiles reiterated his concerns about the rezoning, saying he believed the best solution would be to rezone the portion of the lot that abuts the business as C2 and leave portion at the street as R2. “This is a residential area that we are splitting up and putting commercial in the middle of it,” Guiles said. “I don’t think that is ideal for zoning. I think a good solution for both would be to zone the abutting (property) to their current property commercial and keep the front where the house is residential.” Reed City Mayor Roger Meinert said it is his understanding that the house is not livable and the rezoning offers the opportunity to improve the property.
